2004 Fall Newsletter

  1. Membership Renewal: To  renew your NESSA Membership for 2004-2005, please do the following:
  • Log onto the NESSA Directory. Update any information that needs changing.     (http://highschoolsailingusa.org/directory/district.asp?ID=NESSA)
  • Download a 2004-2005 Invoice from the NESSA website (http://nessa-sailing.org/membership.htm).
  • Have invoice signed by school Principal, Headmaster, Athletic Director or Student Activities Head.
  • Mail to the address on the form with a check for $100 made payable to: NESSA

 

  1. First-Time NESSA Members: To become a NESSA member for the first time, log onto the ISSA website and follow the directions for registration. (http://highschoolsailingusa.org/directory/addnew.asp)
  2. Membership Update.

The following schools have completed their 2004-2005 NESSA membership requirements.
Barnstable HS (MA)
Cheverus HS (ME)
Minnechaug RHS (MA)
Tabor Academy (MA)
East Lyme HS (CT)
The Hotchkiss School (CT)
The Williams School (CT)

NB: Your school must be a 2004-2005 member of NESSA in order to participate in NESSA championship regattas.  Further regatta information and notice of the NESSA Annual Meeting will be sent to the NESSA e-mail list and posted on the NESSA website when available.

  1. Tentative NESSA Fall Events
  • Sunday 12 September 2004. Polar Bear Open*(Fleet Racing) @ Bowdoin College. (Unconfirmed as of today)
  • Sunday 26 September 2004. NESSA Single-handed Championship (Healy Trophy). Location: TBD
  • Sunday 3 October 2004. Casco Bay Fall Open* (Fleet Racing) @ Southern Maine.
  • Sunday 10 October 2004. NESSA Fall Funfest* (Gleekman Trophy) at CBI.
  • Saturday 16- Sunday 17 October 2004: ISSA Single-handed Championship (Cressy Trophy) at Lake Minnetonka, MN.
  • Sunday 7 November 2004 NESSA Annual Meeting. Location: Tabor Academy.  Scheduling meeting at 0930.  Annual meeting at 1030.
  • Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 November 2004: ISSA Great Oaks regatta at Southern YC (New Orleans, LA)       * = Great Oaks Qualifier.

 

Great Oaks Regatta Reminder. The NOR for the Great Oaks has been posted on the ISSA website. (http://highschoolsailingusa.org/future.htm).  When you read it, you will see that the regatta has opened up the eligibility requirements making it available to more schools.  The NESSA officers have decided to use the following criteria for qualification.  Schools eligible for entry to the Great Oaks Regatta can qualify in two ways:

  • a.   Being the first eligible school, who has not already qualified, at a qualifying regatta. (Polar Bear Open, Casco Bay Fall Open, NESSA Fall Funfest).
  • May send a resume for consideration. Resumes must be e-mailed to Jim Terkelsen before 1400 (2 pm) on Tuesday 12 October 2004. Decisions to be made by the NESSA officers on Friday 15 October 2004. 

  1. NESSA Trophies
    Holders of NESSA trophies are reminded of their responsibilities under Article M of the NESSA by-laws.  ( http://nessa-sailing.org/bylaws.pdf ) Hotchkiss and Lexington HS are the present holders of the Healy Trophy.  Tabor Academy is the present holder of both the O’Day and the Mark Trophy.
  2. Agenda items for the 2004 Annual Meeting should e-mailed to NESSA Acting- President Jim Terkelsen CoachTerk@hotmail.com before 1 November 2004.
  3. There have been some problems with the NESSA@topica.com e-mail list this summer.  Please check with others in your organization to make sure that someone has not been dropped from the list by mistake.  To rejoin the list, log onto the NESSA website (http://nessa-sailing.org/elist.htm) and follow the directions.
