Andrew & Jonathan,
In April of 2008, after a thorough and thoughtful review of all three proposals, NESSA awarded the 2010 Mallory to CBI/MIT. Through a quirk in the schedule, they have misunderstood what ‘the second weekend in May' meant and moved forward with the wrong dates in mind. When informed that the second weekend in May is May 8-9, 2010, they were not unable to shift the event to the traditional, prescribed date. The selection committee feels that their proposed date, which may place the Mallory and Baker on back-to-back weekends, is not wise for sailors. Therefore, NESSA is investigating a new site for the 2010 Mallory. Before we open up the selection process to others, we wanted to see if either Indian Harbor or Barnstable HS are still interested in hosting the 2010 Mallory on Saturday May 8- Sunday May 9, 2010 (Friday May 7, 2010 would be the registration date)? If so, could you please let me know by Tuesday March 10, 2009? I have your original bids and the committee will review them once you let us know.
There is still a chance that CBI/MIT may be able to solve this date problem, and I am sorry that this letter may raise your hopes, only to be possibly dashed again, but the committee feels that it would be prudent to investigate other options now, so we have a definite plan in place 12-months out.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know. Thanks again for all that you do to help further high school sailing in New England.
