2014 Lawrence A. White Invitational

Saturday, October 18:

It was a beautiful and unseasonably warm fall day at Coast Guard for day one of the 10th annual Lawrence A. White Trophy. Racing started in a perfect southwesterly that provided excellent racing conditions for the first four races in each division. Much to the chagrin of the race committee, and more importantly the competitors, the wind quickly went to the west and was much more unstable and unpredictable for the rest of the day. Six more races per division were completed in the westerly. Courses were W3s and W4s. There were no protests filed.

Sunday, October 19:

Another great day on the Thames! A beautiful northwesterly that ranged from 8-18 knots allowed for an additional 10 races per division to be sailed, all on W4s with very little changing of the course. The last B-Division race was started just before the cutoff time to complete the rotation. One request for breakdown was granted and one protests was filed resulting in a DSQ.

Thank you to all the people who helped make this event possible. First and foremost the CGA Cadets who were on the water all day both days making sure all 40 races ran smoothly: Brad Brown '15, Josh Moan '15, Avery Fanning '16, Matt Orgill '16, Josh Morrison '17, Alex Paggi '18, Harry Hoffman '18, Erin Morgan '18, and Peter Bied '18. Bob Austin-LaFrance, Leo Berendes, and Greg Hall served as our judges. And Jim Perkins did all the pre-event organizing, a huge task with the large amount of interest this regatta is now drawing!

Thank you to all the teams who made the trip to the Coast Guard Academy for our 10th annual Larry White Trophy. We'll look forward to seeing some of you for the CT State Champs in the spring and more of you again next year for the 2015 edition.
