Sixty nine College (20) and High School (49) teams gathered for the 2004 Rose Bowl Regatta organized by the USC Sailing Team and hosted by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club.
Saturday brought clear skies and a cool northwest wind 10-20 knots. Sunday there were beautiful clear sunny skies but winds were light and fluky and mostly unsailable until about 2:00 pm when a light (3-8 knot) sea breeze filled from the west. While waiting for wind many sailors enjoyed time on the beach back dropped by picturesque views of Catalina Island out to sea and Snow Capped Mountains inland. On Saturday there were a few breakdown requests and one HS protest filed. Sunday nothing was filed.
Saturday evening over 300 parents and students enjoyed dinner at ABYC and a program on college sailing presented by coaches and students from each competing college.
Thanks goes to the USC Sailing Team and alumni and volunteers from Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and the U.S. Sailing Center – Long Beach, CA for making this the largest and oldest annual combined college and High School sailing regatta in North America.
